How ValuePorter works

Where our prices come from
Our prices come from retailers' official programs and affiliate data feeds, never from copying their web pages. Every price shows when it was last checked. A price not checked for more than 26 hours is marked as out of date and never gets a deal tag.
New, used, renewed and open-box prices are tracked separately and never mixed. We never compare a price with a retailer's "list price" or crossed-out price: only with our own history.
Our deal tags
- Lowest in 30/60/90 days
- The price is at or below every price we recorded in that period, it was higher at some point in the period, and our checks cover at least 80% of it.
- Great deal
- The price is in the cheapest 10% of the last 90 days and at least 15% below the typical (median) price.
- Price drop
- The price fell at least 5% and $5 from the previous price. The tag shows for 72 hours.
- Back in stock
- Available again after at least 24 hours out of stock.
- Cheaper at another store
- The lowest all-in price (including shipping) for the same new product, among stores with a recent, in-stock price, by at least $1 and 1%.
When we hold a tag back
- The price was pushed up in the last 14 days before being "cut".
- The seller is an unknown marketplace seller.
- We don't have enough history to back the claim.
- The price hasn't been checked recently.
The ValuePorter Score
When a product has a ValuePorter Score, it is made up of:
- Expert consensus (40%): what major reviewers concluded, summarized in our own words.
- Specs and value (30%): compared with products in the same price range.
- Owner sentiment (20%): recurring themes, never quotes.
- Price behaviour (10%): the current price against its history.
We never copy reviews, and commissions never influence the Score.
